Pre-requisites: Basic course in Operations Research/Management Science and Operations Management at undergraduate or graduate level

Aim: The course will focus on developing an understanding of how to manage the interaction of business functions across companies in the supply chain and various concepts and methods for the design, control, operation, management and improvement of supply chain systems. The course will enable the participants to learn supply chain metrics, primary tradeoffs in making supply chain decisions, and basic tools for effective and efficient supply chain management, production planning and inventory control, supplier selection and supply chain coordination and risk management in supply chains.

Course Outcome:

  1. After completing this course, student will be able to
  2. Describe the fundamental concepts and functions of supply chain management.
  3. Discuss the issues related to designing and managing supply chains.
  4. Compare the supplier relationship management practices and discuss the issues of coordination and integration in supply chains.
  5. Assess the inventory, ware house and transportation management practices of an organization.

  • Research paper review 15% (throughout semester)
