Aim: The aim of the course is to discuss issues relating to Public Policy and the Role of Public institutions in shaping the Business and Economic Environment

Course outcomes

  1. Understand the role and relevance of public policies in the development of any country
  2. Explore the need of institutional interface in linking of the legislature, executive and judiciary in ensuring equal distribution of resources in any democratic society
  3. Analyse different challenges in implementation of public policies
  4. Equip participants with knowledge of constitutional safeguards and regulatory frameworks

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

  1. Introduction to Public Policy theories and concepts
  2. Indian Economic Environment: planning, reform, models of development
  3. Public Choice and Democratic Politics: Role of Bureaucracy, Impact of LPG policies,
  4. Social Services in India: Education, Health, Poverty Alleviation, Informal Labour and Marginalities

Assessment Details with weights:

  • Project Study: 40%,
  • Poster making: 10%,
  • Attendance/Class participation/Discipline:10%
  • End Semester: 40%.
