Pre-requisites:

Aim: The course is a fundamental course in business statistic. The course is designed to introduce basics of data collection, preparation, descriptive and inferential statistics in context to business decision making. The course will be focus on conducting statistical analysis with software tools.

Course Outcomes:

On successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Analyse and interpret data to provide meaningful information to assist in making management decisions
  2. Apply modern quantitative tools (Microsoft Excel) to data analysis in a business context.
  3. Determine when it is appropriate to use the various techniques and how to use software to conduct analyses.
  4. Conduct and interpret a variety of tests and apply models to aid decision making in a business context.

  1. Unit 1: Introduction to Statistics (3 hours)
  2. Unit 2: Organising and Presenting Data (4 hours)
  3. Unit 3: Descriptive Statistics (6 hours)
  4. Unit 4: Probability and Probability Distributions (7 hours)
  5. Unit 5: Sampling and Sampling Distributions (5 hours)
  6. Unit 6: Hypothesis Testing (4 hours)
  7. Unit 7: Simple Linear Regression (3 hours)

Assessment Details with weights:

  • Group Assignments & Project 30%
  • Mid semester 30%
  • End semester 40%
